Welcome to The Capital Runner!
Hey, I'm Brett, and I started The Capital Runner because I got tired of hunting through five different Facebook groups, three Instagram accounts, and two Reddit threads just to figure out where the good group runs were happening this week.If you've ever tried to find comprehensive information about running in Washington, DC, you know the struggle. The info is out there, but it's scattered everywhere. Race calendars on one site. Route recommendations in random blog posts. Group run schedules buried in social media. Trail conditions passed around by word of mouth. I wanted one place that pulled it all together. So I built it.
What This Is
The Capital Runner is a weekly newsletter for people who run in DC. Not people who run past DC on their way to somewhere else. Not casual joggers who hit the Mall twice a year when relatives visit. People who actually run here, who know that certain trails in Rock Creek Park turn into a mud pits after it rains, who've learned which water fountains work year-round, who understand that summer in this city requires a complete hydration strategy.
Every week, I send you:
Routes worth running with actual details beyond "it's pretty." Where to start, where the hills are, where to find bathrooms, what to watch out for.
Upcoming races and events so you don't miss registration deadlines or show up to your favorite trail on the day it's closed for a race.
Community news about running clubs, group runs, local stores, and the people making DC's running scene what it is.
Practical tips for dealing with DC's weather, traffic, tourists, and everything else that makes running here both challenging and great. This newsletter exists to make running in DC easier and better. That's it.
Get Involved
This works better when it's a conversation, not a broadcast. If you know about a great route I haven't covered, a running group that deserves spotlight, or a race that's flying under the radar, tell me. If you have questions about running in DC or ideas for what you'd like to see in future newsletters, reach out.
I'm building this for DC's running community, which means I'm building it with you.
