Run Club Spotlight: Every Person Run Club

For this week’s Run Club Spotlight, we chatted with the folks over at Every Person Run Club, a Navy Yard-based group that welcomes all runners, regardless of pace, experience level, or ability.

With a Mission, Vision, and Values that would make even the most successful DC non-profit blush, this group means it when they say they are for “Every Person”.

What makes Every Person Run Club different from other running groups?

We are known to have a focus of running together rather than at a certain pace, and all runs and training programs are free. No donations and no memberships—we're hoping to make running as accessible as possible.

We are super welcoming. We want to learn your name and what brought you to the club, and we want to run with you.

What is the mix of runners and who thrives in your group?

We typically have anywhere between 25-60 people depending on the weather, and whether or not we're in the middle of a training program, and up to 200 people for some of our special events. We're quite varied in ages, paces, and races. We're "every person" after all!

The type of runner who thrives in our group is one who cheers as deeply for others as they do for themselves.

Walk us through a typical EPRC run.

All our runs have a bag drop and access to bathrooms, so when a runner arrives at the meet time, they have a few minutes to either get themselves situated and/or socialize. Pre-run announcements start 10 minutes after the meet time. During these announcements, the captain welcomes all the runners, shares club updates and introduces the run guides for the run. The lead run guide will go through the route, and then the run starts! After the run, majority of runners will hang a cheer on everyone as they finish—till the last runner finishes.

After Wednesday evening runs, we socialize and get food and drinks at Tap99. If we run from lululemon, we find a neighborhood spot. After Sunday runs, we proceed to The Roost (food hall) to get coffee and brunch.

We recommend new runners check out our website EveryPersonRunClub.com and/or our Instagram, so they know the details of the run, but other than that, no need to sign up—just show up!

What do current members say they love most about running with you?

We're nice and welcoming, and we offer a lot for it being a free club.

Share a tradition that captures what EPRC is all about.

We put a lot of effort into cheer stations at local races, and we're known to bring quite the energy, not just to EPRC runners, but to all runners! We believe in cheering and supporting others is as important as showing up for ourselves. Community first, always.

How can people find you and get involved?

Each Wednesday evening, we meet at Tap99 in Navy Yard (1250 Half Street SE) at 6:30pm and host an easy-paced, 3-mile run loop that goes to the National Mall or various parts of SW or SE DC. On the first Wednesday of every month, we meet at lululemon F Street (1090 F St NW).

Sundays are for our longer runs, where we always offer a 5-mile option. We meet at 8:30am at Big League Performance & Rehab (637 Pennsylvania Ave SE).

Since we are currently running our Spring Race Training Program, we will also offer varying distances according to the race training plan to those who are training for races this coming spring.

You can find out more about us and also reach out to us on our website EveryPersonRunClub.com, and/or on our Instagram @everypersonrunclub.
