Run Club Spotlight: Prince George's Running Club

This week’s Run Club Spotlight takes us out to Maryland and the Prince George's Running Club (PGRC), a running club founded in 1985 with multiple runs a week across the Greenbelt area.

When/Where does the group meet?

We meet at 6:30pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays at Herbert Wells Ice Rink , 8:00am Saturdays at Greenbelt National Park (Sweetgum Picnic Area), and 8:00am Sundays at the parking lot at Mission BBQ at 5506 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, MD.

What makes PGRC different from other running groups?

We are the largest running club in Prince George's County. We welcome all runners and walkers alike.

We cover the range from people just starting out slowly to those who like to run fast and far. New people, regardless of speed or ‘seriousness’, are always welcome! You’re also welcome to come run with us before you join!

What is the mix of runners and who thrives in your run club?

We regularly have between 20-50 people for each run. All levels; all runner types. We have members that are both seasoned marathoners as well as beginner runners.

Runners who are interested in being a part of a running group and are looking for both organized runs and social runs will thrive in our group.

Walk us through a typical run.

When runners show up, we have introductions so runners can introduce themselves and share what distance they are running. If a runner is new, we pair them with a current member to ensure that they have someone to lead them on the trail.

On Sundays, we meet up for coffee after our long runs. We also have Wine Wednesdays once a month, and we have social runs on Federal holidays.

What should first-timers know before showing up to your run club?

First timers can just show up or contact us ahead of time. You can find upcoming runs here.

We ensure that we wait for all members to return from a run before departing.

How can people find PGRC and get involved?

Our website, Facebook, Instagram, Strava and Meetup.
