Runner plans first ever “Washington Monumentathon” to honor brother
Max Davis is running a marathon around the Washington Monument. Not past it, not through the Mall. Around it. More than 300 laps of 0.08 miles each, starting at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 10.
He's doing it to honor his brother Beck, who died by suicide three years ago.
Davis shared his plans on TikTok and invited DC runners to join him. "If you're a runner in Washington DC come run the first ever Washington Monumentathon with me," he said in the video.
After losing Beck, Davis founded the Beck Davis Survivors of Loss Foundation, which supports families who have lost a loved one to suicide. The organization focuses on connection, resources, and breaking the stigma around mental health.
When WUSA9 asked Davis what his brother might think of the plan, he didn't miss a beat. "He would say, why would you do that? He also has an edge to him though that I think he, I think he'd be out here doing it with me. You know, I think if it was the other way around, he'd probably be doing 30 miles though. It's always having to one up each other."
If you're in the area Sunday morning, join him.
