Theodore Roosevelt Bridge Pedestrian Path Closure December 11-22

Beginning Thursday, December 11, the pedestrian path on the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge will be temporarily closed as part of the ongoing rehabilitation work on the bridge connecting Arlington, VA to Washington, D.C., according to the District Department of Transportation. The December closure will allow crews to install the foundations for new overhead sign structures.

Pedestrians will be able to access Arlington via the Key Bridge and Arlington Memorial Bridge during the construction.

The Theodore Roosevelt Bridge opened to the public in 1964, and accounts for a quarter of Washington, D.C.’s traffic across the Potomac River. Nearly 95,000 vehicles use the bridge daily. According to DDOT, the rehabilitation will extend the service life of the bridge by 20-30 years. The existing sidewalk and traffic barriers do not meet current safety standards and are a top priority in the rehabilitation plan.
