DC Half and 5K: What You Should Know
The DC Half Marathon and 5K are being held this weekend, September 19-20. Another sold out year, this race series attracts thousands of runners and ventures through some of DC’s finest routes, from Hains Point to Rock Creek Park. Here are the details you need in order to be prepared for the big weekend if you’re running.
Race Expo and Packet Pickup
Packet pickup begins at noon on Thursday, September 17 at The 507 (507 8th St SE) in Barracks Row. The closest metro will be Eastern Market on the Blue/Orange/Silver lines.

Race Day Packet Pickup at West Potomac Park: 5AM (PRE-PURCHASED AMENITY ONLY)

Both races begin and end at the same location: West Potomac Park (2912 Independence Ave SW). There is no on-site parking, so give yourself time to find a parking spot near the National Mall if you are driving. If you are arriving by Metro, the closest stop is Smithsonian (Blue/Orange/Silver). Metro opens at 6AM.
The 5K begins at 8AM Saturday, September 19, and the Half Marathon begins at 7AM on Sunday, September 20. Course cutoffs are 46:30 for the 5K and 3:30 for the Half.
Bag drop is available near the Start/Finish. You will receive a clear bag during packet pickup that can be used at the bag drop, but bags must be collected by 11AM after the race.
For the 5K and District Challenge runners, you should be in the corral by 7:45AM. You can run with your dog in the 5K, as long as you use a non-retractable leash that is no more than 5 ft. long. Strollers are also welcome, but race organizers ask that you start at the back of the corral. Dogs and strollers are not permitted on the half marathon course.
Half Marathon and District Challenge runners, be in your assigned corral by 6:45.
The Course
The course will take you around Hains Point, with the Half extending up Rock Creek Parkway before turning around at the base of the Calvert Street Hill and heading back toward the National Mall and ending back in West Potomac Park.
There are six water stops along the route with restrooms.
